Is Pacman luck or skill?
Unlike card games, the maze hides nothing and shuffles nothing. What looks like chaos in the first hour reveals itself as clockwork by the tenth.
What's deterministic
The maze never changes. Pellet positions never change. Each ghost's targeting rule never changes, and the hunt/scatter rhythm follows a schedule. Two players making identical moves see near-identical games - which is exactly what makes the daily challenge and head-to-head multiplayer fair: same seed, same conditions, may the better router win.
Where the pinch of randomness lives
Frightened ghosts choose escape turns with some randomness, and that's essentially it. The consequence: fright-mode chases carry mild uncertainty, so experts treat the fourth capture of a chain as a calculated gamble rather than an entitlement. Everything outside the fright window is readable.
What skill development looks like
Stage one: you react to ghosts and die surprised. Stage two: you learn the board and die less. Stage three: you know each ghost's personality and begin herding rather than fleeing. Stage four: you plan complete sweeps and treat power pellets as tools. The game measures exactly this progression - your win rate and streak stats track it for every variant.

How do you win at Pacman?
Eat every pellet in the maze before your lives run out - that clears the board and counts as a win. Scores go further: power pellet chains, fruit and efficient routes decide your leaderboard rank among winners.
Why do the ghosts behave differently?
Each ghost follows its own targeting rule: the red one chases your exact position, the pink one targets a few tiles ahead of you to ambush, the cyan one computes a flanking position, and the orange one alternates between chasing and wandering. The personalities were a deliberate design decision to make the game feel alive and learnable.
What is the Daily Challenge?
The daily challenge is a single seeded run that every player in the world gets on a given day - same maze, same ghost behavior seed. Clear it and your score is ranked against everyone who beat the same challenge. Miss a day and it's gone, which is what makes streaks worth protecting.
