How multiplayer Pacman works
1. Create & share
Pick a game, create a room, and send the link (or the 6-letter code) to your opponent. No account needed.
2. Ready up
When you're both in the room, hit Ready. The server hands the identical maze run to both of you at the same moment.
3. Race
Play your own maze while your opponent's pellet bar ticks up in real time. First to clear the maze wins; lose all your lives and your opponent takes it.
4. Rematch
One click deals a fresh run to both players in the same room. Best of five is the house tradition.
Solo play vs. multiplayer
Same maze, same ghosts - the only thing that changes is who you're up against.
| Solo game | Multiplayer race | |
|---|---|---|
| Players | Just you | You vs. a friend, live |
| The run | Random each game | Identical for both players |
| How you win | Clear the maze | Clear it first, or outlast your rival |
| Best for | Relaxing, practising | Bragging rights and a rematch |
Why race a friend?
The maze chase has been a solo game for four decades - one player, one joystick, one quiet arcade duel against the machine. Multiplayer Pacman flips that on its head without changing the game you love. You still steer your own hero, plan your own routes and spring your own power-pellet ambushes, but now there's a person on the other side doing exactly the same thing on the same maze. The result is all the arcade purity of Classic or Turbo, plus the pulse of a genuine race. It's the one feature the big Pacman sites still don't offer.
Same maze, decided by skill
Every match is built on a single shared seed, so both players face the exact same run. No one gets an easier maze. That means a win is never luck - it's who routes cleaner, corners tighter, and wastes fewer power pellets. If neither player can finish, the higher pellet count wins, so smart, aggressive play always pays. It pairs naturally with our daily challenge (one shared run for the whole world each day) and the leaderboard, where your best solo scores are ranked.
Which games can you play head-to-head?
Live racing is available for four favourites: Classic, Turbo, Mini and Ghost Rush. Pick one when you create your room; your opponent gets the matching run automatically.
Multiplayer Pacman FAQ
Can you play Pacman with friends?
Yes. The maze chase is traditionally single-player, but Pacman.free adds a real-time head-to-head mode: you and a friend get the identical maze run on your own devices and race to clear it first. Create a room, share the link or 6-letter code, and play.
How does multiplayer Pacman work?
When both players are in the room and ready, the server hands the exact same seeded run to each of you at the same moment. You each play your own maze while a live progress bar shows how many pellets your opponent has eaten. The first to clear the maze wins; if a player runs out of lives, the other takes it.
Is multiplayer Pacman free?
Completely. There is no download, no signup, and no payment - just open the room link in any modern browser on desktop or mobile and play.
Which Pacman games can I play against a friend?
Head-to-head racing is available for Classic, Turbo, Mini and Ghost Rush. Because both players get the same seeded run, every race is fair - you win on skill and speed, not luck.
Do I need an account to play multiplayer?
No. Anyone with the room link can join as a guest and enter a display name. Signing in is optional and simply keeps your record and stats across devices.
What happens if my opponent disconnects?
If a player leaves or loses connection mid-race, the remaining player wins. You can also start a rematch with one click, which deals a fresh identical run to both players in the same room.
